Route & General Observations

Skinned up Troy from Eaglecrest to see how the latest storm snow was bonding and to practice digging and recording snow pits.

Weather

Calm winds and no precip.

Snow surface

Snow surface was wet, warm snow below 2600' with a boot penetration of 80cm. Slight melt freeze crust on the surface above 2600'.

Snowpack

Dug a pit on a westerly 28° slope at 2300'.
Compression Test results: CTE SC 35cm. Failed on the 10th tap 35cm down within the last storm snow. Sudden collapse.
CTH SP 102cm. Failed on the 27th tap 102 cm down on a facet layer above a thin ice layer. Sudden planar.
Extended Column Test results: ECTN 10 35cm down. Layer failed but did not propagate.
Propagation Saw Test results: PST 102/102 Arr 102cm down. Facet layer did not propagate.
