Route & General Observations

As part of the Alaska Avalanche School Avy Pro 1 course a small team toured up to Mt Troy to practice full snow profiles and compression tests.

Lower to mid mountain maintained a stiff crust throughout the day and appeared to remain stable. Upper mountain had 6″ of new snow. Dug a pit (Mt. Troy, Elev 2,600′, Aspect W, Slope Angle 20 degrees, HS 205cm, at 1200pm) with propagation (ECTP28 at 70 cm from surface) along a freeze thaw crust that appear to have rounds on top. Another pit dug 200 yards north did not provide any propagation results, nor did we see cracking or hear whumphing while touring.

No snow accumulation during the day with periods of moderate winds out of the west then changed to out of the north after 1200pm. Air temp remained at or below 32 degrees F at our elevation the entire day.
