Cold, clear skies. Air temp -21 C, no new snow. Wind was around 9mph out of the NE.
Snow surface was surface hoar that has been breaking down from previous days winds. No new snow on this slope from Monday's storm
With these cold temps we are seeing faceting within the top 30cm or so of the snowpack. There are some melt freeze crusts from New Year's Eve with some faceting developing between the two crusts. Tests results were ECTX and CTN, so no results. However, with cold temps continuing and new snow on the way this weekend, be prepared to see some persistent layers start to form. The snow from Monday (01/08) was redistributed from the winds on Tuesday burying the surface hoar on certain aspects, but helping to break down some of it in other areas.
