Snowing S1 (1cm/hr) at 2250ft, raining at 1800ft. Moderate to strong E-SE winds at this elevation transporting snow as it fell. -1 at 1pm.
Went out to assess the storm snow in a wind-loaded spot. Location was lee to previous NE winds and current E-SE storm winds and precip. Snow/Rain line was still a few hundred feet below the pit location in the afternoon yesterday and surface snow was still dry. Assume wind slab formation would be MUCH more extensive at higher elevations and on the Juneau Mainland.

Upper Snowpack, new snow and multiple crusts
Mid Snowpack, multiple crusts, some breaking down
Lower Snowpack. Highlight is the layer of faceted grains above the thick layer of melt forms around 88cms above the ground. Layer to watch if we get a major rain at elevation

Pit location, in a lee area near some small trees
Had one CTH RP result on this layer of faceted grains above the major melt forms layer which makes up the mid-lower snowpack around the region. Could not repeat it in another CT, ECT, or DT
